Ford Rangers equipped with separate front bucket seats have a center console. The console has an armrest that doubles as a storage compartment, as well as a cup holder and coin holder. Models without the separate front bucket seats simply have a flip-down armrest. If your Ranger's center console gets damaged, you can easily remove it and replace it with a new one. The process only takes about 30 minutes with common tools. Open the center console lid. At the bottom you'll find two Phillips head screws.
Remove these with a Phillips screwdriver. Keep these screws, as well as the other screws and bolts you'll remove, in a small cup for storage.
You'll need them to install the new console. Inspect the front part of the console, beneath the radio. In the coin holder area, you'll find four bolts. Remove the four bolts with a ratchet. Inspect the center part of the console. You'll find two Phillips-head screws.
Pull the console upward to unhook it from the floorboard. Remove it from the Ranger.
How to Remove the Overhead Console in a Dodge Truck
With the console removed, you'll see the mounting brackets for the console and the nuts the screws and bolts go into. It is not necessary to remove these brackets when replacing the console. Move the replacement console into the cabin. Line up the console with the mounting brackets on the floorboard. The console screw and bolt holes should be lined up with the mounting bracket's nuts.Brought to you by 1AAuto. Hi, I'm Mike from 1A Auto. I hope this how-to video helps you out, and next time you need parts for your vehicle, think of 1AAuto.
In this video, we're going to show you how to replace the power outlets and cigarette lighters as well as the bezels. This is a Dodge Ram, but this process is similar for many different vehicles. Items you'll need include new outlets and lighters and bezels from 1AAuto.
To remove your center dash trim, we're going to use a flat blade screwdriver with some painter's tape on it or a non-marring plastic ply tool if you have one. Feel around the edges. Pry out until you get a tab to pop. Carefully move along and pop out the rest of the tabs until you can pull out the whole panel. Move it around your shifter column and lay it out flat.
Remove our accessory power, and the passenger heated seats switch. Push down on the tab to release the power sliding windows switch, the two connectors for the climate control panel, your traction control, driver's heated seat, cigarette lighter, and your four-wheel drive selector. To remove your power outlet, pop off the cover. Push out on the socket. From there, you need to replace the trim ring as well.
You'll see there's a little notch here and a tab on the bezel. Rotate the bezel until it lines up with that notch. Push it out. The new bezel doesn't come with a socket cover.
Peel it off the old trim. Here, we have our new trim bezel from 1A Auto, universally cut to fit either the power outlet or the cigarette lighter socket. This notch is for our cover, so we'll slide our power outlet cover on and align the arm into that notch. From there, we'll line up one of the mounting tabs with the notch in the trim panel. Pop it into place and rotate it so our power outlet socket sits upright. Now that we know our power outlet cap is in the right place, we'll align the tabs in our new power outlet socket from 1AAuto.
Push it until it snaps. Pop our cover back on. Our cigarette lighter socket comes out the same way our power outlet socket did, by pushing on it from the back and sliding it out of the trim panel.
You can also replace this trim bezel the same way we did on the other side. This one's all right, so we'll just install our new socket from 1A Auto. Line up the notches in the socket and push it back into place until it snaps. Reconnect all your connectors.
Each connector is different, so you shouldn't have a problem with crossing them over or connecting them in the wrong spot. When adding a new stereo or navigation system to your Dodge Ram, it will require removing a part of the front dash to access the mounting bracket. The part of the front dash that contains the factory-installed stereo is called the dash bezel.
The dash bezel comes off so you can access the stereo wires without having to completely take off the entire dash of the vehicle. Remove the rubber liner around the cup holders along with the plastic tray on the driver's side of the center console. Locate the three screws that are used to secure the console to the floor and remove them with the screwdriver. Remove the boot shift cover if your vehicle has a standard transmission.
Release the clips on the boot cover by pushing the base forward and then pull the boot cover off. Pull the vertical trim piece under the center bezel panel down and then out to remove it. Locate the two screws that are found under the center bezel panel and remove them using the Phillips screwdriver. Turn the vents on the center bezel panel to one side and then gently pull on the panel.
The center bezel panel is secured with clips that will need to be carefully removed by pulling gently around the perimeter of the panel.
